How many tent caterpillars does it take to fill a 32 oz. jar?, lol, I lost count when I started dropping them in about 10 at a time but was up to about 358 with a little room left. My brother says if I got that many I should be selling them for fishing bait cause they're good for that. I think that must be the Only thing they're good for. I...I Love the tip about the potatoes & garlic. I just planted some potatoes & my enemy today would be the neighbor's cat who did his business where I'm planting stuff so to keep the stray cats & racoon from digging up my newly planted potatoes I covered them with thorny rose bush prunings. I guess I will find out if that was a bad idea or not. <br />Well I did what I do & started researching what you could do about the ground ivy & man, people really don't like that stuff. Basically it said if you use an herbicide you will have to keep using an herbicide you know kinda like when the Doc's put people on meds & want you to keep taking them the rest of your life. Says if you mow it, you are spreading it. Some people have had luck with using a very diluted solution of Borax like 5 teaspoons added to 1 quart of water in a spray bottle or 1/4 cup Borax mixed with 5 gallons of water for larger areas and one man had this to say which I thought was interesting: "Creeping Charlie (ground ivy) generally likes soils that are low in pH. Some inexpensive lime (available at any farm supply store) at the right rate to bring it up to a pH around 6.8 is desired." Another commented in similar fashion: "I had a back yard full of creeping charlie A neighbour who was a farmer told me he got rid of creeping charlie for good by using garden lime. I marched to the garden centre and got a bag of lime, spread it on the back yard and lo and behold, I finally said goodbye to Charlie. It really worked. It took almost three weeks but it's gone."<br />And yes tent caterpillars suck. So I've just started using Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth for ticks & googled & it says it will get rid of the tent caterpillars! I am starting to love that stuff. If I were to be honest with myself I would have to say for the most part my experience with it has been a struggle to say the least. And yet there is that pull to do it anyway no matter what. I once had a gazillion walking onions, now just a few, so since the few that remain were so spread out I decided last night to move them together so I did, all nice & neat & tucked in, job well done right? Go out just now & they're completely dug up, one big mess, obviously a racoon looking for worms I guess...and so it goes. I don't have enough milk crates to cover up everything I plant. I really wanted to grow me some good corn this year too. A 7 foot fence is a playground for coons. And yet my favorite thing to do is sit and gaze at the garden, no matter what condition it's in...true unconditional love. Today I'm the kvetcher. I find that nothing vexes me like the mal-intent of my garden. Whether it's watching the good plants die while the boring ones thrive, or seeing the grass die where I want it while it toils endlessly to invade less opportune areas where I don't want it, I just have to wonder. Perhaps it's because I am none of those elevated adjectives that follow your statement. Or perhaps, if I may toss some Voltaire as well, albeit in English, "In this, the best of all possible worlds, everything is as it should be". Which is to say that my suffering at the hands of the horticulture gods is perhaps befitting a sod like me.Cannibal Coderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09578777459530774168noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454715059831810456.post-33372255284613970332014-03-16T08:40:00.174-07:002014-03-16T08:40:00.174-07:00I didn't know that about Jefferson. He has his own ideas about what is coming & wanted to prepare for it & is completely enjoying his new lifestyle. I've never heard of anyone leaving the corporate world to pursue a lifestyle more in harmony with their heart's desire & Soul's calling that regretted it...quite the opposite, looking back most say it's the best thing that ever happened to them.<br />I think especially now there is a great need for more gardeners & I truly admire & respect those that seek to do it in ways that enhance life & health, working with nature instead of against it. I like books like 'The Findhorn Garden' & 'The Elves of Lily Hill Farm'. <br />Nice post Ramsay, There should be a like button for these.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13048955508950162096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454715059831810456.post-58482622287902293602014-03-13T10:10:28.052-07:002014-03-13T10:10:28.052-07:00Cannibal Coder's got it!Cannibal Coder's got it!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13015543087958307182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6454715059831810456.post-90582571647866363722014-03-09T10:55:13.458-07:002014-03-09T10:55:13.458-07:00Love this sentence... I seem to have been guided for many years to learn alot of different things, for what use, I am not completely sure, perhaps just my own Soul growth. I do like learning & we're never too old for that. You use words sometimes that I am a little unfamiliar with and I find myself looking them up to find the full meaning of them & I like that.
